Should I tell my parents my brother has a facebook/myspace?
So I'm 21 and my 13 year old brother just got a facebook and a myspace. Should I tell my parents to get one to check up on him and just have them not tell him about it so he doesn't get embarrassed? I don't have one either so I can't do it. I mean he's a smart kid but I would rather be safe than sorry.

No, I don't think so. I've had both and I'm safe. I'd just make sure he knows all about Internet safety.

I've had a myspace since I was about 12, I would say you should just get a myspace instead of having your parents snooping on him. And you said he's a smart kid, it would only be a problem if he was trying to meet people on it, but these days more people just have them to talk to there friends so I wouldnt worry too much, and if you do just get one yourself lol. Good Luck!

To be honest facebook and myspace aren't as bad as they are said to be. It's not like it's infested with creepers. As long as he is smart about who he talks to and what kind of information he is sharing then he will be fine. My mom used to be 100% opposed to myspace and facebook but once she got a facebook for her self she realized that it it's really not that 'unsafe'.
I don't think it's your place to tell your parents about your brother. I think if anything you should just ask him about it and make sure he is being smart. Why don't you make one and just add him as a friend. That way you can be updated as to who he adds as his friends, what pictures he posts, and what kind of information he is sharing. |

The internet is safe for kids 8+ if their parents teach them about internet security.
1. Do not post pictures online 2. Do not post your last name online 3. Do not post your address, name of school, phone number, landmarks (in your city) online. 4. Do not post information about your siblings, parents or friends online. 5. Do not give out your passwords to anyone else. 6. Ask permission or research about any program you download (before you download it). 7. Make a new e-mail and new IM address for online friends. Do not give out your personal e-mail or im to people you meet online. 8. Only use webcam with people you know offline. 9. Try to only add people to your facebook/myself that you know. Avoid adding complete strangers unless you had a conversation with them beforehand. My parents taught me those when I was 10. If anyone follows those 9 rules, they will be safe online. By the age of 13, these should already be registered in your head. |

Just tell him about Internet safety.
Although I'm sure he knows already. Schools talk about that A LOT nowadays. :] |
