What to do with a fast computer?
My brother gave me his old computer, and it's extremely fast-- 6GB's of RAM, 2.71 Ghz quad-core--and I just don't know what to do with all of that without feeling like it's going to a waste. Suggestions?

Depending if it has a good graphics card you could install STEAM and play some games.

People mainly buy powerful computers for graphic intensive programs and GAMES (such as Crysis). It's great because you can run like 50 programs at once without the computer freezing or lagging.. but if you're not into that or dont have a high speed internet connection.. it's kind of a waste.

Do homework on it, do research on it, download games, buy games from the store, get on Facebook, get on Yahoo!Answers, plan your future, download music on it, plan your day, create slideshows/movies, write letters to relatives you haven't talked to in a decade, plan a vacation, e-mail people randomly about your day, learn all the countries an capitals of the world, research something you want to get, watch videos/movies... The possibilities are endless, you just have to figure them out.

speed is one thing, the more important thing is what kind of video card do you have? all that speed is nothing without an awesome video card. once you get an awesome video card you can do extreme gaming with it. If you ever do camera work, you can work with RAW images with photoshop. sounds like you don't even know what to do with a computer anyways, so just use it like you should because you got it for free anyway.

That's like feeling that a Porsche is "going to waste" because you're driving it at 30 on a city street. Use the computer for whatever you need it for, knowing that it probably has the speed and power to do anything you want it to do.
