Do you think that Facebook is distorting the true meaning of friendship?
I mean, so many people are connected to each other as "friends", even chat online as "friends" and when they see each other in real life it's like they don't know each other. I find that facebook is becoming a more and more hypocritical way to connect to people. I only have my account because of real friends I have in many countries, which makes it convenient to talk to them and see how they've been. The other 80% of my contacts are fakes - I had hopes to maybe become friends with some of them in real life, but it didn't work out. There are even people from my job and extended family I don't even know, so I cannot just delete those. Twice I hooked up with girls by means of facebook. That didn't work out too well on the long run. Tongue Oh and don't forget all those people who walk the streets, ride the buses, and perhaps even go horseback riding while using facebook on their smartphones. That scares the crap out me, and now I know that zombies exist. ..so do you think that facebook changing people in a negative way?

Facebook is stupid. I don't have it. I never will again.
I hope it crashes permanently. People have lame excuses like "well I have relatives far away" call them, write them, e-mail them. Facebook is full of s*it no one cares about. Lame lame lame lame.

Of course it is, pretty soon we'll be fat useless lumps like in Wall-E only able to communicate through computers to each other. I closed FB ages ago best thing I ever did and if I see lol or lmao ever again I'll rip my hair out.

Yes, among lots and lots of other things. Facebook distorts everything it touches, pretty solidly.

It's like this. The internet is an ant farm already. We're the ants and anyone can peek in from the outside at any time. The dirt only does so much to hide us when we're all under glass.

But things like Facebook and Twitter? The combination of their popularity and design makes them the Magnifying Glass of that ant farm--this is where people go when they aren't aware of how heavily they're being watched. This is also where the "ants" get cooked under the magnified light, so to speak.

The problem with this is that more and more of the mainstream internet is starting to DEMAND Facebook account access in an attempt to "verify" who everyone is--people are misusing the Facebook account (according to FB's own Terms of Service, mind you) as an easier-to-stalk version of what Open ID was originally meant to be.

The real life version of this would be DEMANDING that people show up at the airport and fly wherever they go, even if they don't have the money, and even if it would make more sense to drive, just so the TSA gets their free groping.

But yeah. On the strictly social level, Facebook does distort the concept of "Friendship", no question. It turns what used to be face-to-face conversations and outings between a few friends into a loosely connected, half-incoherent clutch of files shared between and among thousands of _actual strangers_ who never meet. It warps the _Word_ "friendship" until it loses all meaning.

And it also does this to the words "internet", "privacy", and "self-respect" as well. Not to mention "Internet Economy", but hey.

Distorting? No, but they are diluting the definition.

In the end, we all know who our real friends are.

Of course it is. Note the subtle change... they used to be called "contacts" now they're "friends".... see? Think about it... and all the crap people post are not "posts" any more they are "status" like something real and present.... see?

The ZZA (The Zuk Zombie Army)... 1 million strong... and growing... Talk about Zombie Apocalypse... scary... People get ready there's a train comin'... ☺

Edit: As someone pointed out above, think of the many sites DEMANDING access with a FB account. Is this the Christian prophecy in Revelation 13:17?...

"And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name".

And the number of course is 666... or "your Fb account". And the Name of the Beast is ZUCKERBERG… There. One more mystery solved. The Z is the Antichrist lol. ☺☺☺

Have you seen the movie "WALL-E"? It was a premonition for this... People sitting next to each other, but they never meet in real life, only through a social network... and suddenly the screens disappear and they see each other for the first time... "OH!!!!" It's like: "there's a world out there...". Amazing movie...

It's easy to keep in touch with friends: we have e-mails, phone calls, visits, letters -yes, the paper ones, they still exist and it's beautiful to get them...-, and all kinds of things. Why do we need Facebook? There's absolutely no need to be in the Big Blue F. Start using the e-mail with those friends, explain them this and help them get out of the blue mud (F)... slowly, we will all be free, but someone has to start and others will follow... why not you? ;-)

Facebook has changed all my friends; they suddenly disappeared, some of them for years... it's only now that I could communicate with some of them... they had been caught by the blue net... like fish... almost dead... like zombies... most of them are still like that... losing friends because of an evil network is almost like having them killed by a nazi dictator... the zombie apocalypse... you know... Most of them will never be the same -you should see their souls before and after... they're not the same, at all... they don't think anymore... most of them are almost dead, others I haven't heard from them ever since, and I do write to them and know they get my e-mails... they say: "yes, I got your message", but they never reply... such a sad death... the living dead... This Zuck brat destroyed many, many friendships, and the concept of friendship itself... that's evil...
