How do you start a conversation on facebook?

There's this guy, and he's in 10th grade and I'm in 8th. And I see him on facebook and I want to talk to him. I've talked to him before, but a long time ago. I want to talk to him and say that it's my sister, but I'm afraid that he might talk about something that happened when my sister was there (she's in his class), or that he might start liking her, when it's me on the other line.... What do I do?

You should just be honest with him. Don't pretend to be your sister because that could give you lots of problems in the future. Casually IM him and say that you're bored, and need someone to talk to. Bring up something to talk about, like how his classes are or what his plans are for the weekend. I do it a lot, and if a guy IMs me, I don't think it's weird at all. If you're not nervous about it you'll be fine (:
