Has anyone found a decent alternative to facebook?
The decreasing privacy options are a problem with me, and while I know they just fixed the chat the fact that such a huge privacy hole was there in the first place makes me nervous. And now if a friend of mine 'likes' someone's status, that status shows up in my newsfeed even if I don't know them! Are there any social networking websites out there that don't have these privacy problems? I already know about linkedin, but I'm not looking for professional connections, and I know about twitter but microblogging isn't my thing. Thanks!

orkut.com is a decent one. Operated by Google.

There are several. But most of them suffer from the same problems.
U should realise by now that the best approach is to assume that ANYTHING u put on the internet (no matter how much privacy they say u have) is open to the entire world. All of these social networking sites have been hacked...FREQUENTLY (and this means socalled private pages also). But u can check out, Myspace, Myyearbook, Bebo, Hi5, and there's more. |

Not yet, but I dropped FB like a hot potato after their latest round of invasions. I was in linkedin for a couple weeks and like you I don't need professional connections. Orkut is used mainly by folks from outside my country (or at least it was, when I was in it) so I lost interest. my.opera is a "sort of" social community if you like to talk sometimes also about the Opera browser.
But...nothing else like FB for now. Mebbe later. I'm gonna be really wary this time, though. FB made me scared. |
