I've never met my real father?

Ok, so I'm 13 years old. About 2 years ago, I was on holiday with my dad and my younger brother and sister. We flew to the holiday spot by ourselves, so we had to being a birth certificate. I saw mine, and realized it wasn't my dads name. It was someone else I've never even heard of. I decided to forget about it, until recently, when I had to use my birth cerfificate agin.

I wrote down his full name, and looked him up on Facebook. I found someone who I think is him. He has the same name. Even his middle name. He looks to be about the right age, and he doesn't look mean. If anything, he looks quite funny.

Ibut yeah, I'm not supposed to know that my dad isn't my real father. I'm not supposed to know that I'm an only child. Nobody ever told me, I just worked it out. I look nothing like my siblings, but a lot like my mum. She's a very laid back person, but she doesn't like me...knowing stuff.

I don't know if I should try to contact this person. I'm 99% sure it's him, and I found his twitter as well. I want to know him, but my family won't approve. I don't know what to do. I have a fake account on twitter, and I tried contacting him on that. But Facebook is yet to come..

Should I try to contact him? Or should I forget about it? Is it worth it?

Well, the best king to do is to first tell your parents. It's really best if they know first before you do anything, because otherwise it could end bad. Well... Then maybe ask your mum if the guy looks familiar..??? And take if from there. Even if she says no, I still ldont think you should talk to the guy on Facebook.. He might be a weirdo perv or something like that...

This is quite a controversial topic actually.

I personally feel that every child should be entitled to know who his/her biological parent is, mainly for medical purposes. For example, if you've inherited some strange disease from your dad, what are the chances of you knowing it? Besides, there are some mental and emotional traits that are shared by the child and the biological parent.

I think you should ask your parents first. I mean, they should've known by now that you feel different and they shouldn't be hiding the secret any longer. But don't push it too much. Assure them that you'll always be with them, BUT you're curious to meet the other half of you at least once.
