Its self motivation. You either do it, or you don't.

You always start somewhere...so just make a start...i know just thinking about making the start can be hard...but once you get going then you can keep adding to it.

Starting is the hardest part. You just need to start, then you can continue working with a lot more ease.

To motivate yourself, consider seriously the reward of doing the work and the consequences of not doing--long term and short term. Especially focus on the consequences, fear is usually a stronger motivation.

You have probably spent too much time thinking about this issue. I would advise you to take your mind of it for at least one day if you can afford it. You have not specified if you are working from home or are a student trying to write something. The best way to get into the "work"mode is to start working on something else that carries a smaller mental weight on it.Such as for example tidying things up and doing some cleaning, or something else that is physical and will take your mind of the stuff that you need to complete. For me it works wonders; when I have a tidy fresh space I feel much more productive. Also go for a walk, get some fresh air. I would not advise "relaxing" at the pc or with friends: that will give you only the feeling that you have not achieved anything and just escaped the loom of work. The key is to do something productive and get yourself moving, but not related directly to the stuff that you work on.
Once you are ready to start afresh it would be best if you could do a very basic outline of what you need to do on a sheet of paper, so you have a starting point when sitting at the PC.
Once you started divide the work into manageable chunks, have a break after you completed the assigned chunk, or after you worked for a certain time (1h, 2h, 30min which ever is appropriate to the type of work you are doing). Set up your work space in such away that during the time you are working your are concentrated solely on the job and cannot be interrupted by cravings for a cup of tea, checking your e-mail etc. Wear earplugs if necessary, say that you wish not to be interrupted to whomever you sharing your place with.
If you find that your work is going well still have a break every 2h (recommended for eye strain when you are working on a PC), if you find that your work it is a terrible chore have more short breaks, but still stick to the time you are supposed to be working, be it 30 minutes: don't give in to any cravings, but reward yourself with a lets say 10 minute break for internet etc.after you completed the allotted time. Don't go over the break time limit either.
hope this helps

Well are there parts of the task you could delegate to someone else. Sometimes just typing nonsense on the computer is a start, and then you get to typing what you are meant to type. They tell writers to do that. Ask others for ideas.
