How do i find out what happened to someone who left my family 40 years ago?
This sounds really odd, but my uncle moved to england 40 years ago (i'm from ireland) and hasn't spoken to anyone in my family since then. I've only recently found out he existed, and i would just really like to find out if he's still alive. Anyone know any way i could even start to research this?

Thanks.

Start asking questions within the family! You usually find someone who's willing to talk about it.

Edit: All these answers with "search" sites are well and good, but you don't know the reason why he left in the first place! Perhaps he doesn't want to be found! Perhaps he's changed his name! I still think someone in your family knows the story and I'd keep digging until I found out!

go on the internet and look for a real good people search site.
Some sites you may have to pay for. Here's some if you want to use it:
People.Search.PeopleLookup.com
http://www.zabasearch.com
http://www.Intelius.com

First of all, youll need to know their first and last name (ask family members)
1-Go to http://www.Intellius.com and find out their age and where they live (im uncertain if it works out of the United States, youll need to check)
2-Search for him on http://www.facebook.com
(mostly everybody has these nowadays, i have heard of people finding their relatives on here, its free to sign up, if you find him you can chat and see photos of him)
3-Search a family tree site (http://www.ancestry.com is a popular one)
4-You could probably go to court or somewhere and they can research him if you show proof of your identification
