How can you find a child who was put up for adoption?
My mother was forced by my grandmother to put my older brother up for adoption when he was born in 1987. My mom regrets giving him up, but since she was under 18 years of age my mom had no say. We would love to find him and at least let him know we are always thinking of him and try to establish a relationship with him if we can. Please help us and tell me how to find him. I have no clue where to start.

Try starting with the city he was given up in. The problem is if it was a closed adoption...she can't get any information. In some cases you can tell the agency he was adopted through that you want to meet him and if he has told them or when he tells them he wants to meet you they will release the information.

Do you know for sure he was adopted? If he wasn't then it may be as easy as the name your Mother gave him.

If it was a private, closed adoption and your grandma won't give up the information on where your brother went...you'll have to start with his name your mother gave him and his birthday.

Good luck!!!!

Well this may sound dumb but have you heard of Troy Dunn, The Locator?

He helped his mom find her birth parents.

He's not a child anymore. You also need to understand that he may not want anything to do with your family. My four year old gets this. But then again, I can honestly say (although I never have) "Hey J. Saw your birth mom today. She didn't even ask about you."

That is difficult. You will need as much info as you can get. All the where's and when's. Its much harder,I think, to find a child that was given up. Im on both sides of the fence as I am a birth mom AND an adoptee. You, being a sibling, may have more luck. Get with the attorney or agency that did the adoption. I dont know where you are located but Im in Texas. Im connected with TXCARE and they have search angels who are helping me find my son (given up in 1987 also) and my birth mother and/or siblings. I know Im not being much help!

If you have the name of the adopters, use facebook. (If the name is common, you may have to view up to 150 names before you get the right one).

If you have money, hire a private investigator.

You can also ask your mom, grandmother, etc, if they have the name of the agency, the lawyers, etc who dealt with it. If you know where he is or was living, put an advert in the local newspaper or on local radio.

Also there is are internet sites for people looking for adopted relatives, join all of them.

Good luck!

Blood is thicker than water !

Find a search angel. Go on Facebook and ask your friends to post it as well, that a "search angel" is needed to find a child that was placed for adoption. There are quite a few of them out there!

Perhaps your mom could contact the agency that took care of the adoption and petition her information, in case your brother comes looking for information, or his adoptive family. It's possible that they may have made their information open to her as well.

Best of luck with your search, hope you find him and ya'll have a beautiful reunion!
