Suppose you went into suspended animation when you were eighteen?
OK, this mad scientist does an experiment on you and puts you into suspended animation. At the end of forty years or so you waken up. You look exactly the same as you did when you were eighteen, you think like an eighteen year old and emotionally you are eighteen. However, according to your birth certificate you are nearly sixty.

Would you start thinking about social security and look around for somewhere quiet to retire to?

Or would you expect to do all the normal things an eighteen year old would do, like dating girls, making college plans, thinking about a career?

What impediments would you come up against? And how would you overcome them?

Well, first I would look up all the hotties from my old days, and let my 18-year old raging hormones loose on those near-60 cheerleaders / babysitters / friends' younger sisters that I never stopped dreaming about. (as long as they were willing, of course.. I don't think I'd have many rejections.)

I'd want to know all about my social circles - where are my old friends, what became of my family, my neighborhood, even that crazy old lady down the block that always chased us away from playing ball near her yard.
Stuff like the Cubs won a World Series ?!? They have a whole network devoted to housewives of some-county-or another? What about video games? It's kinda like Cartman getting shot through time to get a new gaming rig... 40 years of progress would be pretty cool.

Can I get my driver's license - or do I have to wait for it?
Can I legally drink?
It might be cool to move into one of those 55-and over communities. Housing is cheaper, and lots of services are taken care of. Plus, I'd be the youngest looking and strongest around.

Benefits/downsides to being either 18 or 58:
legal to drink? can I be drafted? am I excluded from any military or civil service job because of my age? can I even afford health or life insurance? Will my "official goverment ID" be accepted when I ask for a senior discount, or will they always be calling the police about me and my fake ID? Every time I use that ID - to fly.. will the TSA (or whatever agency is in the place I happen to be) put me on some silly watch list? Will I be taken into custody by police because the cop doesn't believe my story?

On the other hand - are my savings bonds that I had since 4 years old still earning interest? Did my family ever cash in my life insurance policy.. was I considered legally dead because I was, well - unable to appear anywhere for 7 years? If this scientist were really nutty, I doubt he was telling anyone that I was okay.. just wait another 33 years and I'll wake him up.

Can I sue the Doctor / insurance company for losing all my friends, education, job opportunities?

I guess I would start out on instinct - my needs for friends, acceptance, sexual gratification.. dinner
and a place to stay.
Eventually, I'd start to consider (or people around me would be pushing me to capitalize).. my future plans, especially since it is likely my parents and any adult role models I had are no longer around.
If I can take advantage of any systems - for free money, healthcare, housing, etc.. I probably would take what I could, at least to get started.
TV/reality shows.. or internet and twitter blogs.. or whatever replaces them in 40 years, will all want to interview me.. at least for the first few months. If there was any money or fame in that - I doubt I would be mature enough to make the best decisions. I'd take advantage of stuff that looked good - tv series, reality show, interviews and news shows.

Eventually, I'd probably want to get a college education- and I'd need some money from someplace.. if I got lucky and wasn't too badly taken advantage of, then I might have money from TV and tabloid deals. Maybe I could teach history (since I lived some of it). Maybe a college would give me a scholarship just for the notoriety.

Heck maybe I could play or sing for some 'oldies band' that still covers Metallica and Korn.

I guess I'd wind up trying to find a wife, settle into a home, and have some privacy and possibly children. Just like most 18-year olds look to as the distant future.
