Why do people think you are greedy if you want child support?

Why do people think you are greedy if you want child support?
I fully realize that most of it is motivated by ignorance and there are more than a few misconceptions about how the legal system works, etc., but I just don't get why many people fail to grasp that both parents are responsible for providing financially for their child. I recently posted a legal question on child support and received all sorts of wild accusations about being unemployed, a gold-digger, etc. CRAZY!

Anyone care to explain the mentality to me?

It goes back to when the man was the bread winner and mom stayed at home. Then, child support was paid for strictly by the man. Today is different. If mom works, she can foot half the bill too.

Most of those negative responses come from those who have plenty of money, or from low life fathers who are so mad that they have to help take care of the children and from dumb kids who have no idea what their talking about.

BOTH parents need to care for the children. For those who don't believe it, then they can march their sorry butts down to their local court house and see how full it is for the Good of the children!!

Not all women who have child support are greedy but I have seen a few who remained unemployed and lived off the man's child support payment because they simply did not feel like getting a job. In my opinion, those women are the greedy gold diggers. If you have a job or you're in college and cannot work because of crazy scheduling, you're not greedy and you're not a gold digger. Working or in college or even both shows that you're trying to provide. Yes, the man should provide but also so should the mother in work or getting an education or both.

it can take only minutes to create a child
Yet years to support it
You are both responsible for that
Your job is being a good mother and taking care of it
The father should get a job and support it
Sadly the benefits system we have today makes it easy to cop out of this ?
I,m sure if this were,nt available more would take responsibility for unprotected sex ?

probably because everyone nowadays knows a least one person looking for child support who seems less then likely to spend it on there child.

Example, My brother has to pay child support(understandable), but the ex-wife is possible pain pill addicted, kicked out of the last two places she lived in for domestic dispute call to the cops(with her sister and boyfriend), the kid sleep on a mattress on the floor in the one room in the boyfriends' moms house, and his teeth seem not to have been cared for nor shown to a dentist.

My brother provides much better living conditions for his son when his ex obeys the visitation rights, but because she is the mother and only because she is the mother, my brother is likely to lose in court to her in even the strongest of cases, short of abuse.

So while I personally understand child support(my dad payed my mom), I still wind up with my brother Ex in my head when I think about the subject and it upsets me.

The custodial parent owes it to the child or children involved to petition for and receive child support. If for some reason that parent doesn't really need the funds - then the funds should be put in an account for the child. People who make the comments you've mentioned are either trying to lay a guilt trip of the custodial parent or are simply stupid. You've indicated it's ignorance, but there's a cure for ignorance - there isn't one for stupidity - and they are stupid.

They only say that about custodial fathers, as many think the men should still pay, and many do.

As for women being gold diggers, does it cost $30,000 a month to raise a child? And, what about those who get the child support, then dump the children on the grandparents?

Becausee they do not understand that these funds are needed in order to support the child. The custodial parent does not have the option of just stopping caring from their children from a financial perspective.
