How to convince my dad to let me get a Facebook?
Heres the thing, all my friends have Facebooks and I really want one too! My dad has something against Facebook because he says they can do whatever they want with your information and sell it to companies and stuff like that. First of all, I don't even understand that concept. Second of all, tons of people have Facebooks and you don't see them having companies stalk them or whatever. I've tried in so many ways to lighten up my dad but he won't! Help?

Clearly you are too young to understand the concept of companies selling your information. It's creepy. It's invasive. It's scary.

Yes, companies DO stalk people.

Listen to your dad. It's just a huge time waster anyway.

Just tell him that you will keep all of the privacy setting on, and you will block all suspicious friend requests.

Promise not to upload any racy photos, and try to keep everything PG-13. Act MATURE. Ask SERIOUSLY. Don't whine and complain. Approach your father calmly, and CALMLY explain to him why it is that you want a facebook.

Ive learned through experience that when dealing with a stern/serious father, if you want something, you have to request it in a mature fashion. If you whine and complain, your father will lose respect for you as a teenager, and he will be more protective.

Its just a father's natural instincts to not want his daughter to do something that has a bad rap. (Facebook, ect.)

Tell him they have all these new privacy things that you can set up so the companies can't take your name and phone number and such, just go through the privacy section of Facebook, tell him that there's ways to get around it and other people have done it too, good luck convincing him!

Is that your main reason for having one, because all your friends have one?
Yes, Facebook can do whatever they so choose with the information that you provide to them.
Your dad obviously has a reason why he doesn't want you to have one, he wants to protect his child from the dangers of the internet. You can have on EVERY single privacy setting offered, and even that doesn't guarantee full protection from someone getting your information.

well how would you like seeing one of your pictures on an advertisement or even worse on a porn site? many cases have been reported where girls (even underage ones) have had their pictures taken from their facebook profiles. A friend of mine found her picture on a dating site, quite harmless i know but how could they have gotten it? Facebook sucks people need to get over it
