Is it illegal to have people pay to use your basement for a birthday party?
(If you had a small movie theater, pingpong tables, pool tables, skill cranes plus more) AND if it is legal would you have your kids party there?

technically it is...i think you need some type of permit for something like that...it's like doing hair out of your house...you can get away with it...but if anything were to happen to any of the guest, it could fall back on you....if i were u i'd only do business with the people that u know and trust for now, put everything in writing...
ur basement sounds pretty kick-ass, if u get the proper permit, i'm sure u could make even more money! hope this helps. ...oh and i'd totally have a kids party there,...just keep the payments under the radar. |

there are some city codes that say you can only have so many people in your house for a party..

Well the people renting it out would need a business license and insurance.
But if their friends of yours who's to say who rented anything out. But if someone gets hurt they could sue the owner of the home for everything they own, because their home owners insurance will not cover them for injuries if they find out they were renting their property out for party's. |

Charging people to watch movies in your basement is definitely not legal.

You don't give us much info to go on. For instance - is this a one time only birthday party..OR..are you thinking of renting it out often just to make some extra cash ?
If it was a once only party for a CLOSE friend I think you can get away with it. If you're thinking of doing it regularly then you have to have local permits and obey all local ordinances. Remember that you are liable for anything bad that happens to any party guests while in your home or on your property. Probably the biggest thing to consider is if you are thinking of renting it to teens or college-age kids...DON'T DO IT. One of them will announce it on Facebook and you'll have hundreds of uninvited guest crashing the party. Your home could be ruined and there could be violence. We have had several teens throw parties locally while their parents were out of town. 100's of invited guests show up. Gang-bangers show up.Police are called. It's a nightmare. I would advise against it TOTALLY unless it's a small party for very young kids (close relatives) that will be heavily chaperoned. |
