What is this bible verse referring to, exactly?
Luke 21:35
For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth.

I think I have an idea, but I can't be too sure.

You have to put it in context !!! All you have to do is repent of sin !!!

34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

You need a firm grip on the end time scenario also !!! Rapture 1st then world leader signs 7 year peace treaty with Israel !!! That marks the beginning of the tribulation period for 7 years !!! Christ does not want His bride in the world at the time He is pouring His wrath out on it !!! Then at the end of the 7 year period Christ comes back to earth with His saints to defeat Satan and his hoardes as they attack Israel !!! The next step is to manage the earth and it populations of people for a 1000 years !!! That should take care of the next 1007 years for you !!!

EDIT: The guy above me and the guy below me made it sound SOOO confusing. Let me make it simple for you.

Luke 21:35 is talking about the last days, and we should read the context to see exactly what it's trying to say.

(Luke 24:31-36) “But pay attention to yourselves that YOUR hearts never become weighed down with overeating and heavy drinking and anxieties of life, and suddenly that day be instantly upon YOU 35 as a snare. For it will come in upon all those dwelling upon the face of all the earth. 36 Keep awake, then, all the time making supplication that YOU may succeed in escaping all these things that are destined to occur"

It's talking about the last days, that we shouldn't be consumed in all of our anxieties and self pleasurable goals, but instead we should "Keep awake" spiritually and "pay attention to ourselves" spiritually. Why? because "suddenly that day[Armageddon] be instantly upon YOU". So why be "weighed down with overeating and heavy drinking and anxieties of life" when we should be keeping ourselves alert to spiritual dangers?.

2Tim 3:1-5 speaks about the attitudes of people in our day today. The Bible encourages, just as the scripture you pointed out, that we should focus on storing up treasures in heaven, not on earth lay a fine foundation that contributes to a healthy spiritual life. Why waste our life on materialism and getting caught up in the anxieties of life when it's soon going to pass away at Armageddon? It's encouraging us to "succeed in escaping all these things that are destined to occur".(verse 35)

For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass and to stand before the Son of Man.
-Luke 21:35-36

This bible verse is referring to the "Rapture".

Jesus is coming for a pure and spotless bride. He is not coming for a bride that loves sin and practices lawlessness. The scriptures are absolutely chock full of passages that consistently state this in clear terms. If our sins are not blotted out, they are remembered and we will not be spotless and will not enter the kingdom of God. To sincerely repent, we must not only avoid our sin, we must HATE SIN. The flesh, our unrepentant heart is hostile to God and cannot please Him period. s, the Holy Spirit. The whole heart means ALL, 100%. Anything less is not true repentance and we harbor idols in our hearts. If we do not repent we do not fulfill God’s law, we practice sin or said another way commit lawlessness. Once we fully repent, the power of God comes into us and circumcises our heart and so long as we are led by the Spirit we will purify ourselves of all sin and idols. Paul told us in Romans 8:14 Those who are led by the Spirit of God those are the sons of God.

If we are not led by the Spirit of God, we are tares and deceive ourselves about our faith. Jesus cannot be our Lord, we have not repented or if we had, we have fallen away from the faith. Paul confirmed that repentance is a change of heart. Not a partial change of the heart, but a radical change of heart.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 6:23

We must ALWAYS be bearing good fruit.

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away;a and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does NOT abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
-John 15:1-8

here are little explications:

Luke 21:34-35 "And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with(ie lest follow/exercise/practice/participate in) surfeiting(ie occultism/undue faith), and drunkenness(ie and spiritual/religious/occult iniquity), and cares of this life(ie and the foul/unrighteous spiritual/religious/occult activities as a whole), and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth(ie on all them that are unrighteous/bad clerics/believers/worshipers)."
