A hashtag (#) allows you to follow trends on Twitter. Current London trends include Caico (the Italian word for football) and District3LunchtimeFollowSpree (yeah, odd).

The problem comes when idiots use the a hashtag outside the social networking service to appear "hip" or "cool".
