Can you collect money from the government for child support?
My husband's only income is unemployment, and he can;t pay his full share of child support.

Unless you husband is under a garnishment order nothing coming in can be touched. I hate to sound crass but his kid(s) don't stop getting hungry because he does not have a job.

Child support is paid by one or both parents for the support of a child.
Public assistance (like TANF) and social insurance programs (like unemployment benefits) are available for families. |

Its not the government's job to pay child support. Apply for public assistance.

Tanf is a loan on child support. If you otherwise qualify you can collect Tanf while he is not paying. Keep in mind you assign your child support benefits back to the state for any month you collect Tanf. So in the future when he pays off his arrears you owe that part back and the state will take it directly.

All he needs to do is go to child support enforcement and make an official request to modify the order. They are required to help under federal law.
