A random stranger asked me to be her make-up model. Is it a scam?
Recently, I've been approached by a random stranger on Facebook. She said she came across my profile and asked if i was interested to be her make-up model for a make-up competition. I browsed through her profile page but there aren't any signs of her being a make-up artist. So i was a little dubious about the whole thing. So I was wondering what details should i get from her to make sure she's not some kind of con artist?
A side note, we do have 2 mutual friends. If that's any help.

Maybe you looked really really bad, and she thinks that the before and after would be incredibly drastic! She can say, "Look how great I am! I started with this, and ended up with this!"

Anyone you don't know contacting you randomly on Facebook is usually a scam. If you have no friends in common, then how in the world did she find you out of the 500 MILLION Facebook profiles.

Think about it - she doesn't have one friend, relative, friend of friend, etc that she could ask? She couldn't go onto modelmayhem or onemodelplace to find actual models near her who would jump at this change?

Tell her you have to check with your parents so you need to know
- the name of the competition
- where it is held
- when it is held
- how many other contestants are there
- does it cost anything

You can also ask her more details -where did she go to makeup school, which brands does she use, where does she work, etc?

If she won't answer with very specific details, then it's a scam. if she does answer then either google the name of the competition or the company name and call them to see if she is a participant

Facebook is unfortunately full of scammers pretending to be in the modeling industry. If you answer she'll then say you will get paid $500 for this but they will send you a check for $3000 because they are "out of the country", ask you to deposit it, keep $500 and send $2500 via Western Union to their "travel agent" or "photographer" or some other BS. These are money laundering scams - the check is fake but takes up to 4 weeks for your bank to discover it. And when they do, not only do you owe your bank the entire $3000, but you also sent $2500 of your own money to the scammer with no way to get it back
Here's how it works http://www.newmodels.com/Nigeria.html

If it's a real competition, the model would not get paid, especially if you are not a professional model. You would do this just to get pictures for your portfolio. But it's not real if you have no connections with her.

I don't look anything like a model and get strange messages like this all the time on Facebook and myspace
