Im new to twitter, I understand what the @________ is about, but what about if I see #_________ on my feed?

its refered to as a HashTag.... It can stand for many things like an activity or a verb. For example when Charlie Sheen said WINNING many people decided to say that with a time they did something they liked. So they say the sentence and then put #Winning...You can put anything you want next to it though.
