1. Start by following a few people. It could be people you know, celebrities/famous people, people with the same interests as you or just random people you feel like following. To follow them click the 'follow' button on their profile.

2. Basic tweeting. You may gain a few followers as some people follow back (when you follow them they follow you). There are two ways to tweet. either you can type your message in the 'What's happening?' box or click on the square with a blue pencil next to your username in the top right hand corner. Remeber your tweet cannot be more than 140 characters!

3. Replys. You can reply to someones tweet by clicking the reply button under their tweet which will appear when you hover over it. They will automatically be mentioned at the start of the reply. your replys also have to be no more that 140 character.

4. Mentions. You can mention other people in your tweets. to do this all you have to do it put the @ sign and then write their username. for example @midnightbeastuk (thats not me its my favorite band haha). You can mention people in tweets or replys to tweets.

5. Retweets. You can retweet someones tweet to your followers, this means tweeting what they have tweeted to your followers. you can do this if you really like their tweet. in the same way you reply, the retweet button is under their tweet.

6. Trends. On the right hand side of the screen you will see a list of trends. these are popular topics that are being tweeted about. there are two types of trend, hashtagging (#) and normal trends. Hashtag trends are when you put a hashtag before a word or phrase. it can only contain letters and numbers and even if it is a phrase it cannot contain spaces. for example #WhoYouAre (one of the ones currently trending). it will come up blue in your tweet so that people can click on it to take them to a page where they can see what other people have said who have used the same tag. Normal trends are just when a lot of people are talking about the same thing. you dont have to do anything special to them.
