we just became official yesterday (i asked her how she would feel about me being her boyfriend and she said she'd like that and then i asked her if she'd be my girlfriend and she said yes), but i dont feel its right to request it right away because theres still so much we have to learn about each other.

Right away is fine. If you are official, you should put it on Facebook.
Otherwise she may get mixed signals.

My personal opinion is about a week, but talk to her about it because she might not want everyone seeing and have a more private relationship.

Why should she?

I'd forget your request.

It sounds like control.
