Adding Users
Following users with similar interests with the hope they will also follow you in return can be an effective way of increasing the number of people following your tweets. You can find others who are tweeting about the same topics as you by typing keywords into Twitter's search function and viewing the user list that appears in the results. Once you have followed someone, you might also want to consider sending them a direct message requesting they follow you in return.

Trending Topics
Trending topics are the most popular people or keywords people on Twitter are talking about. They are displayed as one word with the hashtag symbol ("#") in front, and, when you click on a trending topic, you can see other people's posts on the subject. Hashtags create groups on Twitter so if you use them, other Twitter users who might not have heard of your tweets before will be exposed to them now. All you have to do is post a tweet containing the hashtag and trending topic word to join in the conversation.

Personal Information
Giving users more personal information about yourself and/or your business might encourage them to follow you. There is one place to do this in Twitter: your biography. Like your tweets, you only have 140 characters to put down everything you want other Twitter users to know about you, but it can make all the difference. The kind of information that could help draw more followers includes a brief overview of what your business does, your occupation, your hobbies or what you use your Twitter account for (for example, movie reviews or advertising your blog). Your biography is also displayed on Twitter's "suggested users" page, so it will have more of an impact if you have filled it out rather than left it blank.

Incentives
If you are using Twitter to market your business, you can incentivize other users to follow your Tweets by offering something free in return. Examples of incentives include free PDFs of your products or access to certain private parts of your website. This might encourage other users to follow you, even if they don't know much about your business.
