I believe that Neidra is a variant of Needra which, in turn, is a variant of Nedra. Nedra hit its height of popularity in 1939-1941.
The girl's name Needra \ne(ed)-ra\ is a variant of Nedra (Old English), and the meaning of Needra is "underground". http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Needra English meaning of the girl´s name Nedra: variation of Ned (a diminutive of Edward which means "rich guard") Latin meaning of the girl´s name Nedra: Awareness http://www.yeahbaby.com/meaning-name-ety...name=Nedra Nedra: Meaning: Below the Earth http://www.babycenter.com/baby-names-nedra-3374.htm Nedra: meaning Prosperous Guardian http://www.babynames.it/girlname/Nedra-meaning.html Nedra: Meaning: Its source is an Ancient Germanic expression meaning "Subterranean." This derivation depends on identifying this name with the Germanic source of the English word ''nether.'' It is possible that this is a re-working of Edna, or is associated with another feminine form of Ned. About 1/3 of the sites I looked at, determine that the name comes from Germanic source for "nether" (lower or below the earth). The rest determined that Nedra is the feminine for Ned which is a diminutive for Edward (rich guard/wealth protector). I guess you get to take your pick...as a middle name, I think it would be absolutely fine. To avoid the rhyming sounds, I'd avoid a first name ending in "A" or "N". Any of the following might work, Cecelie Neidra Bethany Neidra Amelie Neidra Eleanor Neidra Jenelle Neidra Marielle Neidra Miriam Neidra Good luck. Hope this helped. Ads |
