What is the point in studying ciliate feeding?

What is the point in studying ciliate feeding?
I have found lots of info about how they feed, but what practical application of knowing this.
Eg we see they feed with cillia but what could that mean scientifically, how could this info be used?

Info doesn't always have to be used for something. Some people just find these things intrinsically interesting, in the same way that others might find Facebook or Twitter interesting. It is just curiosity.
