So is my flight on the 21st canceled because of the Air Canada strike?
I am supposed to be boarding a plane from the Middle East Wednesday morning but it wasn't till earlier today that I heard about the strike. I'm worried, does this mean I won't be leaving this week? It's such late notice!

Labour Update

Air Canada Receives Strike Notice
Ticketing policy revised so customers can change bookings free of charge.

MONTREAL, September 16, 2011 – Air Canada has received a strike notice from the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which represents the airline’s 6,800 flight attendants, confirming the union’s intention to begin a strike at 12:01 a.m. EDT Wednesday, September 21, 2011.

Talks between the parties are ongoing and will continue prior to the strike deadline, assisted by federally-appointed mediators. However; in recognition of the uncertainty for customers this situation may cause, Air Canada has introduced a flexible rebooking policy to enable customers booked for travel over the next six days on a rolling window basis (September 16-21, 17-22, etc.) to change their booking, free of charge to an earlier or later date until December 9, 2011, subject to seat availability.

Our flexible rebooking policy permits changes to flight dates free of charge, but not refunds at this time. We continue to operate our normal schedule as talks continue to avoid a disruption. Normal fare conditions apply with respect to refunds. In the event of cancellations due to schedule changes, full refunds would be available.

Customers wishing to change flights purchased directly through Air Canada are requested to use the on-line Self Service Rebooking Tool. Customers can also contact Air Canada Reservations; however wait times are longer than usual due to increased call volumes. Customers who booked travel through a travel agent must contact their agent directly.

In the event of a work disruption, Air Canada will implement a partial schedule including codeshare flights operated by its partner airlines.

The airline will provide further updates as developments warrant.

Our Frequently Asked Questions page provides answers to questions you are most likely to have about the service levels Air Canada would provide during a labour disruption.

For more details and information updates please consult aircanada.com and follow @AirCanada on Twitter and Facebook

Strikes are a pain, but it sounds like if you'll be OK. It looks like they reached a deal to avoid a strike.
