Is it appropriate to pronounce my sexual orientation on facebook?
I told my mother and my father so I have no worries about them. I have not told anyone in the family other than them. I changed my interested in area to solely women but it did not show up on recent stories. Anyways, I am a 14 year old lesbian and have told all my close friends! Actual Question: do you think it is right to come out on facebook?
If so: how(statuses)

Just change interested in to women and make it public.
I personally wouldn't, but then hardly anything on my facebook profile can be seen by the public.

If it's your friends and family - I think they deserve to be told in a manner other than Facebook; its just good manners. Otherwise, I'd say do whatever you feel. I changed mine a while ago. It's not something you have to hide.

However, I know some people, straight and gay, who limit any of that information and don't list it. Just do whatever you're comfortable with. Smile

My personal opinion is that it would be most appropriate at such a young age to ask your parents how they feel about this. I feel so long as you're depending on them, living in their home and so forth, it's only right that you get their approval to declare something so personal.

Yeah its fine. Non close friends and extended family don't need a personal coming out to.

It's your right to tell whoever you wish to know about your sexuality.

You can change it, but remember what happens on facebook do not stays on facebook. My better advice is not to do it, for two reasons:
1) if everybody you care about already know, then the rest of the world doesn't have to. If you didn't tell everybody in the first place there is a reason, I think. Then if you want to tell I think it's more real and better in person =)
2) i know people that applied for a job and people of the company checked their FB page. Even if you are only 14, just think about the consequences of this in the future (I don't think your future boss has to know your preferences, or at least not thanks to facebook!)
