How long is the ban on Facebook going to last?
Just wondering if there are any plans for the Facebook ban in China to be lifted any time soon.

Facebook will remained blocked by Chinese authorities until Facebook complies with Chinese law.

Facebook allows its users to post pornographic and politically inflammatory material. Until that stops, Facebook will not be allowed in China.

When in Australia, you follow Australian laws.

When in the United States, you follow American laws.

When in China, you follow Chinese laws.

Who knows for sure? Nobody. That ban really sucks. I was a teacher in China, and it would be great to share Facebook with some of my former students, but NOOOOOO! Thank you very much CPC. Youtube, Google, and Wikipedia are available now after being banned, apparently, and China, as a whole, is much more open to the outside world than it's ever been in its 5000-year history, so there's reason for cautious optimism, but in the meantime, I intend to look into other Facebook-type sites which are not banned, and there must be some.

Facebook has huge potential to organize people politically. Most Facebook users are only just starting to realize the gold mine at their fingertips. We can end the political corruption here with it and it looks like the whole world could be transformed politically with this simple internet tool. Things really could change, "power to the people" and all that. The Chinese Leaders really saw this early and nipped it in the bud. They just cannot allow a networking tool as good as Facebook to exist, or their whole house of cards will fall apart.

power to the people, because people can write anything on Facebook.
The Chinese Communist Party does not like that.
The CCP will not allow it.

Facebook is just a social networking site. I use it for adding my friends online, checking up with my buddies and keep myself updated with what's happening. Using "porn" as an excuse for blocking Facebook is just plain lame. I believe the whole banning thing is more political and business-related. China has their own SNS site and with Facebook opened, naturally, a competition of "clicks" and ads will begin. So, for me personally, I don't know when they'll lift the ban and I'm not counting on it to happen.
