what privacy rights do I have as a 13 year old?
I'm not saying like them looking thru my laptop and stuff. that's reasonable... I'm talking about them looking at EVERYTHING I'v ever said, following me with the car when I go places, asking people what I say, telling there friends everything like my grades, publishing it to blogs, all my personal CRAP! and they have a spy whole in my bedroom door now and everything. I know that there ARE PRIVACY RIGHTS as stated in some writting. I live in Virginia... but what do I do? Sad they keep doing everything!! they even had a hidden camera in my other bros room! it was in a stuffed dog!! but they said it was to catch there friend from doing something. but please help me! what rights do I have in Virginia?!?! nothing major! just for me to have some breathing space! please! Sad

Whatever they decide to give you until you're 18.

You have all the same rights as any other citizen, but sumtimes when you go to school they don't really let you express all your rights.

Your biggest liability would be your self, how much stuff do you post about your self on facebook, myspace, twitter? anything you put on the web can be found about you.

As long as they arnt selling naked footage of your brother from that cam you cant really do anything about that. Part of dues for living under their roof. I know a chick who wasnt allowed to have a door on her room. Your parents seem to be doing their job. Just make sure they dont post too much personal information online.

For them to have a hidden camera in your brothers room and your room is weird, also what are they doing with the footage? I thing you need to talk to a school counsellor and guidance officer about the situation. They needs to talk to your parents about what is reasonable and what is not. Having cameras in your room is never acceptable. You are not allowed to do that to prisoners or mentally ill, so they can not do it to you.

As I said tell someone and get them to intervene, it does not sound as if parents respect you very much. Also why are they doing this? Have you done any actions that warrant it? You need family counselling in a hurry.

Umm I'm pretty sure that's illegal. Like I'm not sure but I think it is. Ur parents cnt put cameras in ur room or ur bros room cuz its invasion of privacy but I think they can do tht, n the thing bout puttin ur shii on blogs n stuff, thts not rii. They cnt put shii up on the internet as long as u dnt want it. Id call sum1 professional cuz they can get in trouble for tht.

I would think you have some rights but you are underage and they are your parents so you might want to talk to a teacher or counselor and see if maybe they could talk to your parents about their behavior.

What did you do to make them suspicious? I never looked through any of my daughter's things until I was making her bed one day so her grandma could sleep and I found a nudie mag. Since then I have been keeping a closer eye on her. She is 12 years old and I shouldn't have to worry about this stuff at this age. She's just a baby. I think that you should talk with them. Perhaps maybe even make a pack with them that you will not have sex until you are a certain age and show them that you are responsible. It sounds like they are really worried that you may be doing something. As a parent, I know that I want my kids to be able to have a good life. While having a baby doesn't ruin your life, it does create a lot of obstacles especially if you have to do it by yourself.
