How can i get more followers on twitter?

I deliberately searched for people I knew on Twitter first. I followed them and they followed me.


I then started searching for people I wanted to follow or even companies. This includes authors, celebrities, fashion blogs, etc. Sometimes other followers will then follow you if you have the same interest.

Lastly, people will eventually flock to you and follow if they like what they're reading.


I tweet for my own use, plus I make money on the side. I also promote my work (I'm a freelance writer). The thing is you have readers even if they don't follow. I only have 140-something followers, but other people also see me on http://twitter.com/Tobi_Is_Fab even if I don't know it.

Here's some tips that could get you more followers (doesn't necessarily mean you'll get lots more):

1. Tell friends and family to join twitter and follow you. If they are already on twitter ask them to join you.
2. Advertise your twitter account using other websites such as this, facebook, or youtube. Put at the end of every message or question or answer something like 'follow me on twitter: @anyah92' or 'follow me on twitter at http://www.twitter.com/anyah92 please' If you use sites where you can use a signature that goes on every comment you make (ie imdb) put your twitter address as the signature.
3. Follow lots of users and hope they follow you as well.
4. Be interesting. If you're interesting it may attract more followers. For example don't just tweet stuff like 'I'm watching a DVD' or 'I'm making some dinner' talk about politics or your favourite films. For example if you've been to see a film tweet what you thought about it.
5. Use hash tags but don't overuse them. I'm guessing you already know what these are and how to use them (you have to follow the user called hashtags first (I didn't know which you had to follow so just follow them all)). For example if you're tweeting about a film put #film at the end of the tweet.
6. Do follow friday (requires the hash tags). Every Friday is follow friday where users put who they think everyone should follow with the hashtag #ff or #followfriday. So you'd tweet the following (this is just an example so I'll use you, me and some others I'm following):

If you put some of your favourite tweeters they'll see that you've mentioned them and may end up following you.
