How does twitter works ?

I've had mines for a year and never understood it or used it that much and im tired of Facebook , i will choose best answer give me all the details thanks :]

So i stay on this question for a while, refreshing once in a while cuz i recently joined twitter (yesterday) and i have no idea how it works. But still nada, so my guess is that we r not the only ones twitter retarded lol

Facebook is so mainstream now Twitter is way more fun bc its like microblogging and its more acceptable to make tons of updates than like on FB. Once you get some followers youll be tweeting like crazy. Its way less complicated than fb.

tweeting- basically status updates. Your limited a certain number of characters. If you use a hashtag or trend in your tweet other ppl besides followers can see them. Your news feed shoyld just be like fb where only the ppl you follows tweets, mentions and retweets. You can tweet pictures directly from your phone or computer its just like mobile uploads or wall photos on like fb.

Retweeting- retweeting is tweeting someone elses tweet. If you click on someones tweet you have the option of retweeting, reply or favorite. A lot of celebs retweet and it can get annoying and flood your news feed so be careful if you follow someone who retweets a lot.

Favoriting is just saving someones rweet to your favorites, so you can see it again or if you just liked it, etc

Hashtags and trends- ok a hashtag is this #. If you put that infront of a phrase in your tweets it turns blue so you can click on it to see if anyone else is talking about it. A trend is just a popular hashtag people are tweeting atm. Top trends will always change. To hashtag something their can be any spaces or punctuation. An example is #breakingdawn that is a popular trend too. Hashtagging is a good way to get followers especially if its trending. Dont get hashtag crazy and dont do it on tumblr or facebook youll look stupid and it only works on twitter. A another good ex is something like: "Going to the movies @bobthegreat and @jillthecoolest to see #breakingdawn im so excited!" things like tv shows, movies, music, and stuff like that is good to hashtag.

Mentions- mentions is mentioning another persons actual user in your tweet. It will turn blue as well and you can get notified on your phone if you use the twitter app. On your profile their should be a tap somewhere that will say "@" or "mentions" and you can see if anyone mentioned you in a tweet its like on fb if people mention them jn their status's it gets highliighted. When you mention someone you put @(nospace)and their exact user. Like @bobthegreat also you can use the @ sign befor someones user ingeneral like on facebook you might make a status saying follow me @bobthegreat also if you reply to someones ordinary tweet, it will automanically mention them in it if your just replying to their tweets.

Followers and following- basically, you go to someones profile and click follow if you wannacrecieve their updates. If their profile is private they will have to recieve a request when you want to follow. But following isnt mutual if you follow someone who isnt following you they dont see your tweets.

Direct message- its like mentions but its private and you and the person can read them not your followers.

Your goal is to get a good amt of followers. To get some link your facebook to your twitter and only make tweets so it comes up on facebook anf your friends can follow you. But once i got a decent amt i unlinked them i didnt wanna flood them. Hashtagging trends is a good way. If you hashtag this: #teamfollowback at the end of your tweets its a trend that people tweet if they want more followers it lets people know. Its always polite to follow the person vack tho. trust me it works if you do it often make interesting tweets too.
