Can you private message someone on Twitter?

I'm thinking about joining Twitter but won't if there is no option of being able to message other users of it privately.

Is it possible to do? Thanks.

yes you can direct message (DM) someone privately and they can reply.
you can also tweet someone by tagging their name with an @ at the begin but this means everyone can see what your saying.

I would recommend twitter its really good
