How do I go about finding a long lost brother in Germany?
I have an older brother who should be about 31 or 32 that was born in germany. What would be the best way to find him there? His name was Markus Karrer and he is the son of US Army man.

Well it seems fairly easy to find him, if he is still in Deutschland.

Because every german national and resident has the responsibility to register his current address ( Meldepflicht ) it is easy to track them down.

You can start an application for the search of the current address of your brother by the local Civic Center ( Bürgeramt / Bezirksamt ) http://www.berlin.de/labo/

From outside Germany you can ask in an email for the whereabout --poststelle@labo.berlin.de--

It usually cost a fee of only 5.00 Euro which has to be paid on the german account, but in some cases ( from outside of Germany ) you can get an answer / details for free.

Just tell them as many details you know, like the name ( first and surname ) birthday with year and last known address, even spouses name could help.

But this email is of course only for the capitol of Germany useful, BERLIN. But each bigger city has its own Registrar.

Furthermore try to look him up yourself in the German Telefonbook
http://www.dastelefonbuch.de/
He will show up, if he has a registered phone number, like a landline.

Otherwise you have to use the Bürgeramt!

The poster above is incorrect. While it is correct that everybody is registered ( just like you basically "register" when you move and get a new driver's license), those records are NOT public and you will not be able to access them. It is not possible to get the address from the city. There are strict privacy laws. It's impossible.
The only thing you can do is to search the phhone book or try your luck online, like facebook etc.

Good luck

The poster before me gave you great advice.
Here a link with different "Markus Karrer". Most of them you could contact via Skype. This would be free of cost for you if you have the program as well.

(not sure if you get the direct page I have for you, if not just type in the name again)

Good luck finding your Brother!
