Could you please explain what "twitter" is?

I have no idea what "twitter" is, who uses it, or when it started. It is blocked by my computer and I am not able to unblock it because of privacy reasons. Therefore, I have never even seen the website. So, please give me a better description than what is on Wikipedia or Google!! Anyone who copies answers from Wikipedia or Google will lose their 5 points. I want real answers. Thank you!! (:

It is a service where you can send messages from your mobile phone, so everyone can see what you are doing

From my experience, its just like facebook or bebo.
you like "follow" your friends if you want to add them
its just another way of connecting/contacting people from arround the world. its quite hard to use but i suggest facebook
