How do I control my notifications on faebook?

ages ago, when the "old facebook" layout was still in existence, i somehow swtiched off ON-SITE notifications (not notifications by email) about picture comments (when someone commented on mine, or someone else commented on a picture I had recently commented on, etc.) Now on the site, the only notifications i can swtich back on, or off, are notifications by email.

Does anyone know how to control the on-site notifications, i.e. what pops up in the lower left corner?

Yeah, I dont think you can control the web-site notifications anymore. Only the email ones lol, sorry.
