In fact, the Twitter website's logo is a bird. It only makes sense.

"Follow us on Twitter" means to join the social network http://www.twitter.com and connect with whoever wants you to read their short posts..

Posts on Twitter.com are known as "tweets" from the English word for the sound a chirping bird makes. Sometimes this is misspelled as "tweats" which is not a word in the English language though it may be used by Twitter users.

Wikipedia.org has an entry on Twitter.com which may be helpful to you for more detailed information. You could also join Twitter - it's free!
