Keep abreast of the news because the flooding continues to creep slowly deeper into Bangkok. Don Mueang airport is flooded and in ruins now even though government assured everyone that wouldn't happen. They even located their flood relief center there - now even they have evacuated. They assure that Suvarnabhumi won't flood but it has been disclosed that the airlines have established plans to evacuate their planes to other countries.

If you do come you should plan to catch a domestic flight to the north or south and don't go into Bangkok as disruptions to transportation continue to grow resulting in difficulty with train and bus routes. There are also shortages of many products appearing due to disruption of distribution.

I think you should cancel your trip as current situation is not good. Especially during monsoon period, It's not a good idea to visit south east asia.

You should cancel it because you don't know how it's like to live in floods. I have lived there for 6 years and had terrible experiences during annual floods. Bangkok is a terrible city with dirty canals and poor air quality. Please double check before you go as over 300 people have died so far.

I'm in Bangkok right now. Despite the fact that the flooding has been terrible for people in many parts of Thailand, most of the places you will go as a first time tourist aren't affected. You probably won't arrive until the 18th or 19th, and by then much of the water should have receded.

The old section of Bangok around the Grand Palace should be fine by then. The major shopping and hotel area for tourists in Bangkok have not been heavily impacted, if they have been impacted at all. Ayuttaya, the old capital about an hour north of Bangkok, will still have many problems because it was so heavily flooded, so you may want to skip that. Chaing Mai and Phuket are fine.

If you're American and want to be super safe, go to travel.state.gov just before you leave to check out the latest travel advisory. If you're British, try http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-livi.../thailand.

The travel advisories from the US State Department andBritish Foreign Office are always extremely conservative.

The rainy season will be over by then and you should have a great trip.
