What are the best strategies for advertising a blog?

I would like to draw in more viewers and eventually advertisers. Do you have any suggestions that work?

Your biggest ally for blogs is word of mouth. You need to make content that's relevant to your audience. You should create a Facebook page for your blogs, and start with your relevant family and friends - don't force them to join, or you're going to alienate them as readers AND as family/friends. Hold contests on your blog and Facebook page for commenters, subscribers, etc. You can sometimes get donations from companies who want to reach your target audience. Find other Facebook groups with similar content/readers, and make comments, add content, etc. as your blog's Facebook profile. Share links with other blogs with similar topics - put your link on their website in exchange for sharing their blog on yours. Finally, have patience. If you don't want to spend money, this isn't going to happen over night. Keep at regular posts, even if you feel like no one's reading. Good luck!

To let more people know about your blog, you may do some SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This way, search engines may possibly land you some people who are searching on some particular sets of keywords. And to have a successfully SEO optimized blog, you need external links too. In this case, you may also try setting up mirror blogs on different blogging host, say if you set up your blog at blogger.com, you may want to consider setting up mirror blogs at http://self.my, wordpress.com, livejournal.com etc, and each of them pointing back to your primary blog.
