I have fibromyalgia there really nothing that is going to work . My two daughters have it also and I think that I have two granddaughters that might have it. My girls took what you are on and couldn't take nothing that the Dr. gave them. My oldest Daughter has both of what you have . We are all in terrable pain and it is very hard to do anything. I cannot set on anything hard. My daughter isn't working now trying to get her on disability. She is taking theopy they said that they might get her to a six in pain instead of a nine . I don't believe that but she is still going so that they can help with her case. You might get the Dr. to check your vitimine B1 which I did and mine was so low that I had a pain going all aroung my head on one side. Now since I have been on B1 that pain has stoped, but the rest of me is still the same . He said that I probably didn't have B1 in my system very few Dr test for B1 it controls the nurvis system and musels. None of us can set on a hard seat, walk hardly at all, Just bed rest I have had it all of my life didn't know what it was until I was 55 Thought I was crazzy . Now i am 70 and still hurting . The Dr. told my daughter that he said you know you will have this all of your life and I believe it. People just don't understand or seem to care until they get it . I try to do one thing a day and sometimes I pay the price for that for about three days of more pain. I hurt from my head to my feet . I could go on and on but I really feel for you .

fms an OA are completely different and have different treatments

fms is highly over diagnosed by incompetant docs who think it is a general labelfor pain

be sure your doc knows what what he is talking about

it iswrong to say treatment won't help anyone

SOME people so respod to treatment (supposedly-its hard to tell who really has)

other anti seizure meds
SNRI and other antidepressants specifically savella......if yur doc hasn'tmentined this heis an idiot

I have had fibromyalgia for at 8 yrs. now.It took a number of medication to see which ones were the right ones.My doc has me on ampytriptaline 60mg per night and lyrica 75mg per day I also take tridurol for pain and prozac 90 mg per day.I also work 5 days a week and try not to think about it too much but when I am doing any work around the house I have to take breaks and rest in between .Then after I am done I take a nice long hot soak in epsom salts and fairly hot water and that seems to help it.I was on gabepentin for a while but started to put on the lbs.I have gone down a little since then.

Hi Shannon, I have fibro and arthritis (not osteo). What works for one person may not work for the next. It seems to be a trial and error deal to find the best treatment.
Right now, there are three main fibro drugs in the US: Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Savella. Some Dr.s are prescribing antidepressants (to boost serotonin levels to help sleep and pain), muscle relaxers (cause we have knots in our muscle fibers), and pain medications. There have been a few studies out concerning LDN (low dose naltrexone)- some will prescribe this med, and some won't. You'll just have to sit down and talk with your doctor.
It can be frustrating at times, but talk with your doctor and try different meds to see what works best for you. I'm also on Lyrica right now and not seeing a great improvement.... So far, the best med for me is Zanaflex, which is a muscle relaxer. I like it 'cause I can take a fourth or half of the tablet, feel less pain without all of the drowsiness. For the arthritis, I'm on Mobic, which seems to help.
There are also some supplements which my rheumatologist told me to get. COQ10 and malic acid with magnesium. They can be found at your local health food store. I can tell when I've missed the malic acid for a few days. I was also on B12 shots for fatigue, but then converted to sublingual (under the tongue) tablets. The wonderful thing about B12 is that you can take high levels of it, and what your body doesn't use, it flushes out. I would ask your doctor before actually taking any of these just to make sure. He knows your medical history. You can also have your vitamin D levels checked. Vit. D deficiency is a totally different condition, but many patients are low, and state that they can tell a difference after taking vitamin D3.
I don't know how long you've had this, but there are always things like heating pads, hot baths, hot tubs, massages (gentle), tens units, reflexology, and water exercise that may help you feel better. Just like the medicine, you have to try each one to see how you respond.
FYI, you might like to talk to others who have fibro. There are a few yahoo groups for fibro patients. It's wonderful to be able to talk, vent, ask questions, and just become friends with others who understand how you feel. Many of the participants have other conditions along with the fibro. I've had this for over 15 years, and just joined a couple of groups this past year, and I've learned so much from these people.
Hope I've shared something that might help you. Don't be afraid to sit down with your doctor and come up with a plan that will make your body feel better! Good luck to you!

Yup I tried Lyrica for fun, nope, it pot 10lbs. on me. You are new to Fibro I take it. Well when you begin your research you will likely run across the Guaifenisen protocol. And a bunch of people who say "they tried it and it didn't work" It does work, they just never read the book! Or signed up to get their questions answered online by the official admins of the protocol. My Father was a drug chemist and yes, we had a laugh at this protocol on its' face. So I did it to prove it was stupid. Now I am in remission since 2007! There are tons of scams artists out there. This has been around for 40 years and there are 100,000's of us who are either way better or in full remission.
You can even read this book as a general Fibro guideline book too. Diet, meds, etc. are all in there.
Fibro's all take a different recipe of over 700 meds to choose from. There is the basic package which includes"Tranquilizer, muscle relaxer, sleep aids, pain pills, and whatever YOUR symptoms demand.
We are each so different. I am a high-anxiety/little pain Fibro.

I got Fibro back in 2003. You have to see a Rheumatologist who treats Fibro specifically to get a proper diagnosis. I assume you have also ruled out all the other things like Lupus, MS, etc.
A proper diagnosis includes the doc pushing on specific tender spots on your body and ask you questions like are you double-jointed and do you have a flat-foot gene in your family, etc.
If you have 11 out of the 18 spots then Fibro is the diagnosis. We have many more spots that I didn't even know I had until the doc began pressing on these specific areas. I jumped off the table and made a fist when he began poking around my lower neck region! LOL

Please read the book "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia"
by Dr. R. Paul St. Amand and Claudia Mareck. It will change your life.
Also see my story at
http://www.fibrofunny.com
and check out the protocol that put me into a remission since 2007
http://www.fibromyalgiatreatment.com
I help people sick with Fibro and help them through the protocol
I am "Deb Fibrogirl" on Facebook.
Please read the book.
You can get the book super cheap on Ebay.
They are a 501©3 charity group that has developed this treatment over the past 40 years. But you have to be very sick and really really want to get better. And the sooner you begin the protocol in the book, after onset the faster and easier it will be.
Dr. Amand is an endocrinologist who has Fibro as does his wife. He has is now 85 and has been in remission for about 40 years now. As are his first patients. And 90% of all subsequent patients.
I have been in remission since 2007. I was so sick I was eventually bed-ridden. I lost everything.
It is a very difficult protocol to endure, but it is the closest thing to a cure we have today.

Many people quit as soon as it gets tough, so a lot of people say that it doesn't work. It does work if you follow the directions in the book to the letter and in 4 months you should begin to have good days, then weeks, then remission. It's a dirt cheap med and there are so many thousands of us out there who have found the protocol and live by it and it saved our lives and have been able to give up all out Rx meds!

Please pick up the book and consider emailing me with and Fibro questions. dkrolls@swbell.net
My mission in life is to find Fibros who are prime candidates for this protocol and then I work with them to prepare for it.
I can now run 10-12 miles a day and Fibro is no longer even in my radar. This is not a scam and you are not asked to buy anything except a very safe and inexpensive drug that is safer than aspirin.
Please read my story and list of Fibro symptoms. There are literally 100's of them.

st - I'm very surprised by the negative results on such low doses because I myself have a very low medication tolerance. I guess it's possibly working for me because I was already on Pain Management (Methadone 10mg 2 x day). I do feel empathy for what others are going through because I've been there with other medicines (read below). Main - This was the 1st Drug that I tried after being Diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue because of my skin sensitivity & my Foot/Hand pain. Foot Pain caused by taking Lipitor, then went away after I stopped taking in 3 days. Later they put me on Simcor and Foot pain started all over again, but this time did not stop when dose stopped. Dose to start was 75mg 2 x day. This dose was not effective at all for the 4 months I was on it. I then went to a 200mg 2 x day, which made a huge difference, enough so, that I could go to work and do my job correctly. I still came home with my feet aching(diagnosed as Plantar Physitis (which Fibro makes very hard to heal) & not much that my Foot Doctor could do because I couldn't get used to the Orthopedics. BONUS Info - After going to a great shoe store in Frederick, MD where they watch you walk on a treadmill to see your gate and then matched me up with a pair of Brooks Walking Shoes for work & Keen Sandles for leisure. They made sure that the Shoes fit 100% correctly. I can now walk all day without my feet killing me.

Pain pills (Lyrica) is not treatment sickness like Fibromyalgia. Treatment is specific antibiotic and antifungal agent, exist too natural and herbal treatment. I was suffering CFIDS, Fibromyalgia 13 years, but last 4 years I feel good, I find treatment http://www.cfids.info
