How to stop getting notifications about other people on Facebook?

I became friends with someone on facebook, and ever since then i have been getting notifications (with a little star next to it) whenever this person updates statuses or wall posts etc. I unsubscribed the person, and have been looking in settings but cant find anything.
How am i supposed to stop these?!

Try deleting that person and adding them back, have you liked any of there statuses that could be why

Sounds like they are listed on your facebook under "close friends". Go on their page, on the top right you should see the "Friends" icon with a little star next to it. Scroll over it and "Close Friends" should be one of the options with a check next to it. Click it to remove the check.
