To change your Twitter page background log in to Twitter at twitter.com and click Settings > Design. Here you'll be able to use one of the default backgrounds provided by Twitter, or upload one of your own.

To increase your followers quickly, try checking all the trends on Twitter. They have a lot of fun stuff going on there, and also extensive discussions of anything that's making news, from Tiger Woods to Haiti. Put in your comments in these trends with the right # tags. Retweet something clever someone else has said, ask questions, and try to engage people in real conversations. If you just send out the usual tweets, it will take forever for people to discover you.
