How do you talk to someone who you haven't talked to in a while?

I've known this person since I was 6-7 years old. We met because our moms worked together and became friends. The first day we clicked. They became my best friend. We couldn't see each other all the time. We haven't been able to contact each other in 4 years. They have a twitter they used a month ago, but how do I approach them after so long?

Write to them in an excited way, meaning.. seem genuinely glad that you found them after so long and express that you remember them and inquire how they are doing and say your hellos and then say that you hope everything has been doing well for them. Thats about it. Dont seem too enthusiastic. Wait for a reply and leave it at that.
