Am I the only person who think the family guy show is past insulting?
Am recently living in england and friends from facebook are talking about an adult cartoon called family guy. Honestly I don't know if this rubbish shows on british tele. I clearly understand that is entertaining to many people. But is offenisive to people Who are heavy, dark coloured, jewish, and immigrants. Henceforth the behaviour of the characters just drives me loopy. So just to kill curiosty is this cartoon offensive to any one but me?

Dude, Family Guy and SP parody EVERY group on the face of the Earth. Learn to laugh at yourself.

Its funny BECAUSE it is offensive. To everyone. Seriously are you really incapable of laughing at racism? Its funny not because you agree with it, but because it is absurd that anyone could actually think that way.

This is the point of this particular cartoon. It is offensive and in your face. I do not believe its intent is to upset or offend, it is to shock. I think it is disgusting but my boyfriend watches it. It does have some humor. But I typically choose to watch something else.

If you don't find it funny, you don't find it funny. I don't care for South Park or Family Guy myself. The humor from those shows are no where near original. Some others find it offensive. Many find those shows to be hilarious. I like American Dad better, but that's because of Roger. I don't like it as much anymore because it's starting to be more like Family Guy. With all the references. I don't mind references, but too many of them are annoying. Also, Peter Griffin is so annoying. Eric Cartman makes the same exact jokes every episode.

The creators of the show are not simplistic as that.

Its not just grunty, racist, sexist, religionist, homophobic (the list goes) retarded humour.

If you just look down a layer you start to see they use this humour to mirror the really bad 'isms that perpetuate society. Its actually very clever humour which most racists etc would watch for 10 minutes and just not understand at all and flick off. And they can be funny while they do it.

The only people who take offense are those who are extremely defensive. The rest of us "get it".

My favourite character is Stewie. He's just hysterical. And a closeted gay baby who everyone but his mother can understand. Weirdass but so funny.

EDIT And how can you ask that question when you haven't even seen it to be able to form your own opinion? Thats nuts.

I find it funny sometimes...you just need to learn to laugh a little. Not because you agree with it but because it takes it so far that it's laughable. People aren't that way in real life. And, it's not like they zone in on one group only. They treat every group like that. You can take offense, or take a joke. Your choice.

Lots of Love <3

i used to like the show a lot but last two seasons i think they've gotten way out of line re people with disabilities (Joe) and blacks (Cleveland). since i'm transgendered wasn't too happy with Ida either. fun is fun, jokes are jokes etc but -- yeah, they've lost that light touch that made them actually funny back in the day ...

still a big fan of Stewie and Brian's adventures tho

Im dark colored & my parents are immigrants, I think the show is funny. The show offends but it also shows these groups in a favorable light. In one episode Peter discovers he had a black ancestor & it shows how Peter faces descrimination & the moral of the episode is to not put so much importance on race. In another Peter discovers he was born in Mexico, he gets hired as a house servant by his father in law & is treated poorly & the show does a great job of showing the daily struggles of immigrants. In another Peter's wife, Lois discovers her maternal grandmother was Jewish & she converts to Judaism. Peters religious catholic grandfather makes him anti semetic, but in the end Jesus shows up & talks about how Catholicism & judaism are two sides of the same coin and that they shouldn't argue.
