How to spread the word about a blog?

Start a Myspace, make banners, tell your friends to post them on their profiles... Y!Answers works well too!

visit other people's blogs and comment, talk in forums and have a link to your site, most allow a personal link. put your blog's address in your msn sub-nick. i have uploaded videos to youtube with my own blog's url on them and that has got me some visitors.

I agree with the suggestions so far. Another thing you can do is write short articles about what you cover on your blog and submit them to free online article directories like Ezine.com (Ezine is the best free article directory online). That can get you a lot of visitors if you also use the technique below:

I do keyword research almost every day. It can work VERY well because you're giving people what they're interested in reading - what they are searching for - and then you add your own info and style so it's uniquely yours. Keyword research is really important for anyone who wants to get lots of visitors.
