Personally, I think too much crazy stuff happens on Facebook. In addition, there are many privacy issues, and an adult would need to monitor her account and make sure that her privacy is kept.

Facebook also has a nasty way of taking over people's lives. I've seen people on the altar stop the entire wedding right before "you may kiss the bride" just to post on Facebook that they just got married. People post on Facebook that "idiots shouldn't be using their phones while driving"--while they themselves are driving. I don't think any kid should be wasting their time and lives on Facebook.

In direct answer to your question, I think 17-18 is ooookaaaay if you're talking about a really responsible kid... but in general I'd say the best age to use Facebook is 20-21, when they're more responsible, likely in college, starting to take care of themselves, better prepared to handle such an environment.

13 I guess.

People like to keep in touch with each other, school friends, etc

But in all honesty I'm 17, I just finished high school and I don't have Facebook, some people go on it all the time everyday and get addicted, plus I think it's kind of pointless, people just like to show off that they have 500 friends. As if people actually really know that many people personally! I plan to make an account soon to keep in touch with high school friends. But yes, I don't think younger people really need it, but as long as there's no cyberbullying, posting up of raunchy photos, it's fine from 13 upwards.
