How safe is Twitter for a 12 year old?
So I'm 12 years old and I want a Twitter. My dad won't let me because he thinks it's like Myspace. Is it like Myspace? Or is it safer? I've heard that you can make your account private so that only your friends can see it. Is this true? Please answer in detail---I've got to convince my dad.

It is NOT safe for a 12 year old. No 12 year old should be on the internet unsupervised!

This is entirely dependant on who you follow and who you allow to follow you. There is an option to make your account private, meaning you must approve people for them to be able to follow you. On twitter you are able to follow whomever you wish. Depending on who you follow and what they say you can get a large variance of commentary that is delivered to your feed screen everyday. If you follow only friends you can generally know what to expect. If you follow celebrities you can not be sure that what is said is safe for children and young people. I would say that it is safe for a 12 year old so long as the parent is able to keep and eye on who you follow and who follows you (allow them to follow you and they can see who you follow). Be sure to communicate with your parents to discuss who your friends are. Be open and honest and don't try to hide things from them. The more you share the more they will trust you and you them.

Your dad shouldn't leave you have Twitter. It's worse. It's like a stalker's dream. I don't suggest anybody get a twitter.

Yes. As long as you don't cross a inappropriate line. I am 11 so I see where you are coming from.
