How stop getting friend status update notices on facebook?

How stop getting friend status update notices on facebook?
Everytime one of my friends on facebook updates thier status, it sends me a notification and I'm tired of that. So how do I turn it off?

The current configuration of Facebook has a per friend setting that you can disable or change level of notification.

1) Log on to Facebook
2) Go to your friends page (wall)
3) Mouse-Over the SUBSCRIBE button and change the settings accordingly.
