What's up with the # on Tweets and Facebook?
First, it was the @ for clicking people's names that were tagged, then... this? I'm trying to figure out the main purpose behind this.... Please. Someone. Explain.

That is a hash tag. It is primarially used on Twitter, For example, if I was composing a tweet, I might write : Had an awesome day in #essex ! This would allow people who type essex into twitter to see my tweet! My twitter account : http://www.twitter.com/bwilliams127
