How to flirt without coming off as creepy?

So there is this who is fellow studnet of my sister's and i would be interested, but we've never met. She has facebook and has many mutual friends though. So how can I start talking and eventual flirt with her without coming off as creepy or wird, or a creeper or a stallker?

Add her on facebook, message her with a simple "Hey whats up?"
I know that sounds too easy, but it really is that easy. Basic way to start up a conversation.

Start with introducing yourself and go for the basic conversation.

Well usually, people that "like me" and dont know me start off by messaging me or writing on my wall with friendly messages such as "Hey thanks for the add, how are you? What's up? I know you because im mutual friends with blah blah blah" and i never find it creepy, i always think it's nice that people want to be friends with me. then after that, they'll flirt and what not. Creepy would be "hey sexy, ur hot blah blah blah"
