How would it break the Human Rights Act's Article 8...which deals with privacy

In no way can an employer violate an employee's privacy when monitoring it's employee's emails on the company's computer systems.

The computer is not yours, the time that you are paid to use the computer's is also not yours and the work you do and the results of the work you do are also not yours.

There might be a grey area if you are using a private email account on your own computer or your cell phone, but most companies prohibit you from using your own phone and computers at work.

Do NOT use a company computer for private purposes. This includes checking your facebook account, your gmail account and your own private email. You are supposed to be working at work not Twittering with your friends.
