How is it possible to attend to a shooting of a TV Show shooting in LA studios ?

I am going to LA in october and I'd like to see a shooting of How I Met Your Mother for example. How is it possible to do such a thing ? Should I book my place ? Do I have to pay for this ?

Is there a website to see the available seats ?

Additional information : I mean TV Shows as series, such as How I Met Your Mother etc. , not so much real tv (Big Brother, X Factor) but thx for the answer though

You can get free tickets at audiencesunlimited.com, tvtix.com, or see the booth at Universal City walk. It's very interesting to see a show being taped. The most popular, by far, is the Tonight show.

I've had very good luck with getting tickets from On Camera Audiences. I've seen X-Factor (twice), Big Brother, Hole in the Wall, Hall of Game Awards, Biggest Loser, and actually turned down a number of other shows that filmed midweek in the evening (like Idol and SYTYCD). Sorry. "How I Met Your Mother" does not film in front of a live audience. The audience sounds you hear during the program is from a prerecorded "laugh track" that is added during post production.
