why is there no accounting for how child support money is spent?
with so many parents abusing child support why doesn't the states require an accounting of the money? isn't child support suppose to be for the benefit of the child and not the benefit of custodial parent? why not just give child custody to highest earning parent? any ideas how to correct the currently badly flawed system.

Why not? Because the government has no say in how you spend your money. I also do not think guardianship should be based on income. Having money doesn't make you a fit parent nor does it guarantee that a child's needs will be met simply because you have the means. Besides, even if the parent with the higher income has custody that doesn't end the other parent's obligation to pay child support.

I absolutely agree that it is disgusting when parents use the money they receive for child support for unrelated expenses to the detriment of the child. However, I don't think requiring parents to provide the state with a breakdown of how the money was spent is appropriate. I don't think the system is flawed at all. It's the people who misuse money designated for the upbringing of their child that are flawed.

For 22 years, I have volunteered my time working with divorced/single fathers dealing in family law issues, such as child support, teaching them about what the states are not telling support obligors.

As long as the child is taken care of appropriately, it doesn't matter.

When I receive my paycheck, y car payment must be made and the baby needs food and diapers. I choose food and diapers. When the child support comes in, my car payment is made.

This does not mean I misused the support money. The same amount of money went to each expense.
